It depends on the book. Fantasy? Definitely yes. Science Fiction? Yes. History? No. Textbook? NO. Biography? again, no. Get the picture?
Re: BOOKS! BOOKS!
I mostly hate all books. The only book I might actually read is "Departure" in the video game "Alan Wake", but of course that doesn't exist, and the novelized version isn't good.

Re: BOOKS! BOOKS!
In the past two days I have read Water for Elephants and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. Both very good books. If any of you have seen the movie Bladerunner, that was based off of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, although the books makes things a little bit more ambiguous than Bladerunner (IMO a good thing).

Star Trek Novels are TERRIBLE. Seriously. Film/TV adaptations in general are pretty bad, especially when there are so many good books out there.
Re: BOOKS! BOOKS!
Haven't posted any books recently so I'll just say that I've read couple books by Ted Dekker recently and it is official: he is my favorite author. He is so amazing. Howwwwww does he come up with so many original brilliant ideas? He is one of the few authors that I've read books by that can completely flip the plot around so that everything you understood previously is wrong -multiple times sometimes. He does this for every book. Really, he is amazing.
Books I have read by Ted Dekker:
Skin
The Priest's Graveyard
Three
(And hopefully soon I can add House to this list...)

Wait what? What film/tv adaptations? And what books would you be referring to? Are you even a fan of Star Trek?

Re: BOOKS! BOOKS!
One of the more obscure books by Ted Decker that I really enjoyed is Blink.
(The guy really has an affinity for one word titles!)
I believe He and Frank Peretti co-wrote a book about a haunted house which I was told was amazing.

Yeah, that's House. I have read it, and thought it AMAZING.
Are you going to actually post more often, Mrs. Bone?

I am indeed a fan, although I have a great preference for the original series/films over everything else (though the new film was good). As for adaptations, I am referring to novel adaptations of either film or tv series, either directly adapting a film/episode or just being set in the same universe (which amounts to fanfiction in my opinion, something I despise). As I have previously stated, I do not think this turns out well or is a good idea. With so many novels with original and engaging plots, characters, and ideas out there, I really look at such things as a bit of a waste of time.

I see what you mean -- I wasn't referring to *those* Star Trek novels. Those are adaptations of already-existing content. Bleh -- I agree. I'm just talking about books that were just written to take place *in* the Star Trek universe/timeline. Like really long, published fanfictions. XD I've read one... I liked it quite a bit, and got a whole list of recommendations for a few more I'm anticipating to take out.
Maybe tomorrow. YAY LIBRARY.

Re: BOOKS! BOOKS!
One of my favorite series I picked up last year only because of the title.
"Bone" comics by JefF Smith
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bone_(comics)
It is a 10 book Graphic novel. The comic is a cross between LOTR fantasy action and a Calvin and Hobbs-ish humor.

Kurtis lent me a book with all of those in one volume, and I finished it that afternoon-evening> It is quite good.

I love those books. Like Asher, I borrowed the complete thing from Kurtis. Also by Jeff Smith is a currently-in-progress graphic novel called "RASL." It is quite good, though much darker (and also slightly inappropriate at times).
