Re: Music Discussion
Delicate steve is great, and Sufjan Steven's Illinoise may be one of the best albums I have ever heard.
Re: Music Discussion

Re: Music Discussion
I am newly obsessed [big surprise] with Tom Lehrer. This guy is a GENIUS.
Quite literally, actually, as he was a mathematician, too. Which would explain his songs.

Re: Music Discussion
My computer blocked the link so I looked up the lyrics I don't even know where to begin. Did you know that Nikola Tesla was obsessed with pigeons. And the number 3. And he hated jewelry, especially pearl earrings.

Re: Music Discussion
There's another New Math song by some other guy too. That is less appropriate. Lehrer's song is totally not inappropriate.

Re: Music Discussion
@Jessica: Huh? Who? What? Why would I care about Nikola Tesla?
@Ian: Again, I'm still talking about Tom Lehrer. I'm not caring for whoever did what song elsewhere right now. :p

What's a pirate minus the ship?
Just a creative homeless guy
And an anteater plus a large hungry mutant ant?
An ironic way to die
It's new math...
What's a bag of chips divided by five,
Well that's a Nike workers' meal
And Santa clause multiplied by "I"?
Well I guess that makes him real
And the square root of the NBA?
Is Africa in a box
How do you trace a scatter plot?
Give the pencil to Michael J Fox
Take the approximate moral proportion
Of the probable problem of a pro-life abortion
Live like your data, and when you're all "set"
Put it all together and whatever you get...
It's new, it's new, it's new, it's new...
It's new math.

Yeah it's new, it's new, it's new, it's new... It's new math.
Word problems!

With a twenty dollar bill and he's ready to buy,
In order to predict his volume change

And at the very back end a lightning bolt struck her,
How long 'til it reaches and kills the driver,
Provided that he's a good conductor................
It's new math.

Re: Music Discussion
This thread is sadly devoid of any life.
Anyway, Beach House, Vampire Weekend, El Ten Eleven, Sin Fang, Pavement, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Album Leaf, Mogwai (even more so than the last time), Deerhunter, LCD Soundsystem, Dorena, Moonlit Sailor, Appleseed Cast, Wu Man, Goonies Never Say Die, Fleet Foxes, Slint, Underworld, Flaming Lips, Fleet Foxes, and others.

Re: Music Discussion
Hugh Laurie happens to be an amazing musician. The songs he wrote from the A Bit of Fry and Laurie days are hilarious, especially Mystery.

Re: Music Discussion
I mean 'amazing' as in he plays 5 instruments, piano, guitar, harmonica, drums, [mouth trumpet], and he sings.

Re: Music Discussion
I heard "The Freshmen" (http://grooveshark.com/s/The+Freshmen+acoustic+/3AV6tT?src=5) for the first time the other day and listened to a couple of other songs by The Verve Pipe... they're pretty good! I never realized how awesome Shinedown is, either, until today. I especially like this one, with Lzzy Hale: http://grooveshark.com/s/Shed+Some+Light+feat+Lzzy+Hale+Of+Halestorm+/3nP28E?src=5
Re: Music Discussion
I really like the band "Man Man" esp. their song "Black Mission Goggles"
Also, Cantus Buranus by Corvus Corax is awesome (And sounds great on my new headphones )

Re: Music Discussion
Fugazi is good, and Animal Collective is brilliant. "Summertime Clothes" from Merriweather Post Paviliion is probably one of my favorite songs ever (My favorite song is probably "Holland, 1945" by Neutral Milk Hotel).

Re: Music Discussion
I really like the band Fireflight (The entire album "For Those Who Wait" is just amazing) ... also today I heard on the Radio 104.5 studio session thing this band called Kingsfoil. The acoustic versions of their songs aren't anywhere else, but what I heard on the radio was really cool: http://www.kyte.tv/ch/wrff-fm/live-at-5-kingsfoil/p=3406&s=1326985 I really like them
Re: Music Discussion
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it in People is a wonderful album. Allthough it might not sound like it from the title, Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl is an incredible song (the singer is the same one from Metric.)

Re: Music Discussion
Ha... I actually like Metric better (they're alright...), though her voice is not all that impressive to me. And sorry Asher - I just couldn't stand it: you only have a "(" and no ")" and my OCD exploded. <-- like that.azer wrote:Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it in People is a wonderful album. Re: Music Discussion
I actually haven't heard much Metric beyond Gold Guns Girls, a song that I despise on a fundamental level, so I can't really comment.
