Universal Health Care
Debate your point of view on Obama's plans for a single-payer universal health care system.

Re: Universal Health Care
UH makes sense, if implemented correctly. You need to do it right, though, so that the system works for people with serious injuries and not kids with colds. The word is Obama, by the way.Insanity wrote:Debate your point of view on Obaba's plans for a single-payer universal health care system.
Re: Universal Health Care
When I was in England on the school trip, the tourguide was talking about their universal health care system, and it is not as great as many people say it is. Firstly, you would have to wait at least two months for any kind of special treatment. This is not good if you have a heart complication, malignant cancer, or any other disease requiring immediate treatment. This means that you have to choose private healthcare instead, which, it turns out, is more expensive because less people use it. Secondly, a government controlled organization is less likely to support (aka buy products from) medical innovators. Already, this may not be good for every country. To complicate this, the United States' large population and rather outdated means of communication between local, state, and federal governments mean that the transition would be slow and complicated. This means that in the interim of time between private and public healthcare, there may be some disastrous loopholes in government policy that will undoubtedly deny some citizens treatment.
Re: Universal Health Care
I saw an interview with a Canadian brain-cancer survivor talking about UHC. She had a brain tumor and had to go to the US for immediate care [in fact, to find out what was wrong in the first place]. If she had stayed in Canada, she would have died from a problem she would have not even known about.
I believe this enforces Jon's point.

Re: Universal Health Care
I agree with Jon. When I lived in Ireland My mother was sent to a specialist to see what was wrong with her. They have UHC there and she was told they would not be able to see her for at least six months. When she told them she also had private Health care they saw her the next week. Moral of the story UHC not such a good idea. Ireland is smaller than U.S.A and if they cant handle it.....we are doomed. If I was still in Ireland ..my dad could have died. He had a rare cancer. The way he was treated here was way more aggressive than some people we know in Canada with the same disease. His chances of survival were greater here than anywhere with UHC. So I'm not such a huge fan of UHC

Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly have taken their toll upon you.. oi vey. I think that's a bit harsh and a bit much.
There are benefits, there are dreadful cons, it's a balance game. http://www.familydoctormag.com/doctors-office/194-doctors-debate-universal-health-care-pros-and-cons-from-the-experts.html http://www.americasdebate.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7343
Some interesting links on this subject. I say UHC has it's benefits, and could be potentially successful if it fixed a few of its cons [such as waiting times].
I very much dislike the idea of imposing MORE taxes (and after that bail-out plan? my god..), but if the system could be really beneficial, I'll be willing to spare.. At the moment, my opinion on UHC is: naw!
Re: Universal Health Care
I disagree with you I have seen UHC in action... it does not work out well..this happened without glen beck

Re: Universal Health Care
not an easy job, and not EVERYONE blames the president. The people who actually know what the congress do don't blame him (usually) XD
