Songbird: the new iTunes?
Songbird is a FANTASTIC alternative to iTunes. Made by Mozilla, it offers the great technical support that you see in Firefox, a plethora of features, skins, and a great user community.
I'd recommend this to anyone that is looking for an alternative to iTunes. What you're missing from iTunes? The iTunes store. And that is a big feature to miss, however, Songbird has presented us with a list of different music stores such as 7Digital.com.
I'm an Ubuntu-man at the present, and I must say I have fallen in love with this player. Now, mind you, it is still a bit fresh from the oven [theoretically], seeing as it was around this time last year, so bear in mind that it might not be working at its best, but it still displays beautiful performance and user interface. It might even run better than iTunes!
So give it a try, you might like it. http://getsongbird.com

Re: Songbird: the new iTunes?
In my opinion, iTunes is better. It's superior not just because of its songs (that would be like saying Windows Vista is better than Leopard because it has more applications available) but because of its snappy UI, its convenient organization, and M4A. An example of a feature that makes iTunes so great to use is Genius. Genius allows you to organize playlists into groups based on what other iTunes users select. I have to admit, though, last.fm support is pretty good.

Genius is available for so many applications now adays (or an app in the style of Genius), iTunes has a brilliant UI [this is what Apple is fantastic at doing], however, does it have scheme support? Maybe I'd like to select a different UI. Songbird features a great many UIs, not just the basic Apple UI. [+1 scheme support!]
Question: what is the benefit of M4A files? Just curious, cause I never knew.
iTunes organization is the same as Songbird, pretty much. iTunes was the major inspiration for Songbird. [A lot of people like to borrow off Apple because Apple is very innovative.] I believe Songbird to be WinAmp + iTunes, really.
Plus, iTunes runs dreadfully slow on Windows [it's not even available for Linux unless through WINE... which I don't even want to think about in terms of speed..] Mozilla is extending its reach to a much bigger field of platforms.
I wish Apple and Google would extend its hands to those of other platforms aside from Windows and Mac OS X..
Re: Songbird: the new iTunes?
Personally, Im really not sure that Songbird is legal?
You can download copyrighted songs for free!!!
>_< I dont want to use an illegal product, but....

I disagree. Itunes loads up kind of slow on my xp, but other than that, it is quick enough
Re: Songbird: the new iTunes?
I've used both, and frankly, I prefer Songbird.

Bwahahaha, this was back when I was linux'd out.
Now with Mac OSX, the obvious answer would be that iTunes is fantastic.
If Songbird had iPod support and slightly smoother UI, I would switch.
iTunes Store is dreadful though.
