@ Sara, I mean downside as in weakness. F'rinstance, humans are irrational, short-lived, and weak, while Dwarfs are short, and bad-tempered (typically). Elves are wise, they live long (and I know this can be bad from their point of view, but it doesn't give them a disadvantage, even though they should run out of memory space), they are strong, fast, good-looking, skilled, and all that blahdy blah nonsense

@Ben, I know that dragons live long, but they are non-humanoid, so they can live longer.

lol... Elves are generally not as strong as humans and other people (in D&D anyway) in books like Eragon they are like ridiculously over powered Dead

I think some forms of Elves are cool... But Eragon really annoyed me. It is not the species I am against; it is the way they are often portrayed in many fantasy novels. If they didn't live as long, and weren't as wise, and maybe were weaker, then I am OK with them (they're appearance still gets on my nerves, but I have the same problem with dwarves).
